I’m honored to show “Paragon” in Civil Disobedience: Creation vs. Evolution. “Paragon” is one of many in my series “The Modern-Day Saints of Faggotry” which I use to deify and mythologize the powerful and radiant members of our gay family. I seek to canonize the feminine gay man, the “sinner,” to the high honor of Sainthood — representing faggotization as beatification — at a time in history where patriarchy is aggressively asserting itself in a rising tide of fascist “Strong Men.” I feel it’s important we celebrate and elevate each other and our experiences as the beautiful, beatific creatures we are. By assuming and translating the Catholic symbols of my childhood and utilizing them to honor my chosen family, I reclaim the power these myths have over me.
